I worked with UNC Dental Faculty practice from 2016 to 2019 providing pain management acupuncture for jaw pain, headache and orofacial pain syndromes. Even before this position, I was studying TCM and Western methodologies for conditions of the head and neck. I have been instrumental in improving functioning for many men and women with chronic headache, post concussion syndrome, migraine, forward head posture, and shoulder tension. I will apply whatever modality works! This may include one or a combination of acupuncture, gua sha (gentle scraping using a wooden or stone tool to decongest tissues), cupping, moxibustion and auriculotherapy (ear reflexology). I also often suggest specific stretches I learned when practicing massage therapy.
In private practice, I really do focus on shoulder, neck and head pain. Other areas of special training are kidney health, dermatology, and managing immune-related illness.
I have also been fascinated by dermatology my whole life. I offer treatments for eczema, acne, and facial rejuvenation. I do very gentle treatments often with masks and reflexology around the ear and head to prep the client. Performing facial acupuncture requires specialty training in order to clearly identify muscles and areas of the face where small dermal needles are placed. My training was completed with Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture, a well-respected and widely recognized leader in this niche.
In my free time I enjoy reading, hiking, and binge watching British tv miniseries. I love cats but don't have one right now, unfortunately. I also love brunch and discovering good food offerings in the area.
